Whitewater Kayaking

Whitewater kayaking is an exciting way to spend the day on the water! If you're new to rapids, you can choose a calmer, more serene body of water to gain confidence. But if you've had lots of experience on the water, you might find that faster water with pools and waterfalls might be just what you're looking for.

There are many kinds of waterways for you to try out your whitewater kayaking skills. Before you go, be sure to scout out the river yourself so you know what to expect. If you're going with an experienced guide, most likely he or she has already done this or will complete this before you begin.

You'll want to be as prepared as possible for your whitewater kayaking journey. Be sure to have the following on hand (besides your kayak): paddle, helmet, life vest, compass, change of clothes, food, water, camping supplies (if you'll be traveling overnight), repair kit, first aid kit, safety whistle and anything else you want to bring along.

Depending on the type of water you're traveling down, you'll want to take the physical makeup on the kayak into consideration. If the water is going to be rough with lots of rocks and pools, you’ll want to steer away from inflatable kayaks. Reason being, they are easily punctured by jagged rock beds. But if you’ll be adventuring down a calm river bed, then by all means feel free to use your inflatable kayak if you have one.

Whitewater kayaking is a fun and adventurous way to be out in nature and enjoying the sights and sounds of the river. Making sure you've scouted the area and have the right gear equipped will ensure you enjoy your time.
